Christ Lutheran sports ministries are a great way for youth and adults alike to get active in friendly competition and make new Christian friends. For adults of all ages, Darts hits the bull’s eye of fun! And for years the youth group has been a catalyst for High School Men’s Basketball, Co-ed Youth and Adult Softball and Volleyball.

Darts at Christ Lutheran is part of an 85 year tradition among 14 South Suburban Lutheran Churches. Christ Lutheran member, Jim McLay, explains that “games are played both home and away at Churches from Beecher, Chicago Heights, Crete, Lansing, Worth and others, with home teams providing snacks.” This season our Darts Team is battling for first place and plays from September until March. Darts is co-ed friendly, with players’ ages ranging from their late teens into their 80’s. They shoot for singles, doubles, triples and home runs on the board just like baseball! Jim says that “games are fun, friendly competition as we route each other on.” Each team needs a minimum of 7 players, although 9 or more is best. Come and check it out as the team is looking to welcome newcomers.

Men’s High School aged Basketball is underway. Jamie Fountas and Pastor Shawn Nettleton coach this team practicing and playing on Sunday afternoons from mid December through the first weekend of March. They play against teams from Trinity Lutheran Church and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mokena. Christ Lutheran’s boys have done well, taking a close 2ndplace over the last 2 seasons. They can always use more players! Contact Pastor Shawn if interested.

Co-ed Youth and Adult Volleyball is really taking off again for its 2nd season after a long hiatus. Open gym time is Tuesday nights from 6-7:15pm and welcomes players of all skill levels to come and play. The next step is to start up a local league and develop a competitive team in addition to open gym nights. Anyone interested in coaching please contact Walter Burden.

Co-ed Youth and Adult Softball for those 14 years old and up has been very popular and successful over the last several seasons. John Wagner has coached the team well, with great coordination from his wife Pam and Pastor Shawn. Games are played over the summer at Immanuel Mokena, with a season end tournament and picnic.
