HelpMates
Divorce, death or the breakup of a relationship impacts almost everyone’s life at sometime, HelpMates was formed to help people deal realistically with these losses in a caring environment.
Each individual takes and gives to the program to his/her needs and abilities. Both professional and volunteers guide the process.
Who Are HelpMates?
Helpmates is a Ministry of Christ Lutheran Church for Single Adults.
HelpMates’ Creed
As HelpMates, we believe:
1. Single adults have a unique emotional and spiritual need for support and growth.
2. As individuals we benefit through unity. By being united, we will grow as individuals.
3. The strength of the group and the individuals within the group comes from the grace of a loving God.
Helpmates’ Purpose
1. Welcoming and giving comfort to newly grieving singles.
2. Providing a safe and confidential atmosphere in which to share thought and concerns.
3. Sharing our experiences, strengths and hopes.
4. Encouraging, supporting and respecting each other.
5. Listening so that we can gain new and healthy insights.
6. Reflecting the grace and love of God in our relationships with each other.
7. Growing in our relationship with God through studying and sharing His word.
Where Do Helpmates Meet?
Starting October 1, 2009, Helpmates meet every Thursday at Christ Lutheran Church, located at 14700 s. 94th Ave., Orland Park, 708-349-0431.
What Happens At The Thursday Meeting?
There is a Bible study at 7:00 p.m. A general meeting starts at 8:00 p.m. We have a short business meeting to discuss the evening’s program and upcoming events. At 8:30 p.m. we have discussion groups with topics relevant to singles and once a month we have a speaker. On the first Thursday of the month we have a social night with food and get-acquainted games.
Social Events
Part of our purpose is to provide a safe environment to socialize. Every Saturday we have an event of some kind, i.e., going to the show, plays, dining at restaurants, house parties and picnics during the summer.
How Do I Join?
You must be single, may be of any relogious affiliation, and follow Christian ethics. There are no membership dues other than a free will donation at each Thursday meeting.
